Essentials to be self-reliant and prepared for the present and the future.
I see homesteading, DIY, and emergency preparedness as all parts of the same puzzle.
My goal is to be more self-reliant.
It’s not just “doomsday” we need to prepare for. This blog is all about sharing how to prepare for more regular (going-to-happen-eventually) emergency situations as well as “the big one” that may change our lives and our world in a major way forever.
Homesteading and preparedness are a commitment to the preservation of human life.

I will be challenging myself to learn survival and homesteading skills, all while living in an urban environment. I’m a beginner, but very interested in learning and growing in these areas. My 3-5 year plan is to have a homestead in a more rural environment, where I can put to use the knowledge and skills I’ll be picking up while I live in a big city.
Some skills I’ll be learning:
- Map and compass skills
- Basic first aid
- Wilderness first aid
- How to build a grab n’ go bag
- How to put together emergency supplies
- How to build a fire
- Basic electrical skills
- Basic car maintenance
- Canning
- Preserving
- How to make bread from scratch
